Next Community Planting Day


                          Ōtukaikino River Reserve Community Planting Day

An open invitation is extended for the public to participate in a ‘planting day’, With the goal of establishing additional native trees and shrubs. This key event in the Ongoing development of the Ōtukaikino River Reserve is planned for Sunday 27th August.

The Reserve known for its reputation as an excellent recreation area, with a walk track linking the Groynes Reserve with Roto Kohatu reserve is going under some major changes. This includes the restoration of native habitat in the area to improve ecological values that play an integral role in current recreation planning for future generations. This project will provide wildlife corridors to protect and restore waterway plants and animals, wetlands and natural heritage values, and includes links to ponds, lakes and the Waimakariri River. This will be an ongoing partnership between the community, Trees for Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council, neighbouring land owners such as The Isaac Conservation trust are all part of this exciting project. Rangers will give a talk on the future of this area and the links to other areas of interest in the area

This FAMILY event is scheduled between 10.30pm and 12.30pm (followed by BBQ sausage) on Sunday 27th August at the Ōtukaikino River Reserve please meet at the Roto Kohatu reserve (airport end) of Sawyers Arms Road, follow signs from entrance car park to meeting point.
